Did you know you can get free midwifery and breastfeeding services( covered by MSP) after your delivery, even if you have an obstetrician or a doctor during pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum.
Who is eligible to apply for the postpartum clinic?
All pregnant or postpartum clients can apply for the care. You will see your doctor during pregnancy & delivery & early postpartum. Also, you notify your doctor that you would like to have a midwife in postpartum.
Midwifery Scope of practice in postpartum
The midwife will see you and your baby in postpartum as long as everything is in our scope of practice, which is low-risk postpartum care. If any complications happen, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist. For example, If there are concerns about the baby’s jaundice( being yellow), a midwife can order a bilirubin test. If the test comes so high that baby needs to see a pediatrician, the midwife will refer you to a pediatrician right away
How often are postpartum appointments?
Midwife comes to see you at home or hospital on day 1, 3, 5 day after delivery.
Day 7 after delivery will be a phone call.
Then we see you at the clinic 2, 4, 6 weeks after delivery.
When do book an appointment?
You can fill the intake form, writing you are seeing a doctor. You only would like to see a midwife after delivery.
