I have privileges at BC Women’s and St Paul’s hospital.
Following birth, midwife continue caring for both mother and baby, usually through home or hospital visits initially, followed by clinic appointments. They monitor physical and emotional recovery, assess newborn health, and provide breastfeeding support. Postpartum care generally continues until approximately six weeks after birth, when care is transferred to a family physician or nurse practitioner.
Postpartum midwifery care may also be available through referral for families whose pregnancy care was provided by a physician.
